The Institute of Environmental Systems Research (USF) is an interdisciplinary institute at the University of Osnabrück running research and international teaching programmes in systems sciences and Integrated Assessment. USF has vast experience in river basin management, mathematical modelling, complex systems analysis, and the development of decision support systems. Since October 2001 activities in the socio-economic area and in integrated modelling and analysis at USF have been extended by the chair of “Management of resource flows”.
adelphi
adelphi research was founded 2001 in Berlin as a non-profit and independent institution for applied environmental research and policy analysis. We analyze national and international environmental, energy and climate policies and carry out research projects on environmental, development and social issues.
Through lectures, publications and educational activities we provide a broad audience knowledge in the field of nature, environment and resource protection, and development cooperation. Newsletters on a variety of environmental and development issues, as well as information platforms and exhibitions complement this range of knowledge.
With our practical projects and concrete proposals for action adelphi research makes a significant contribution to promoting environmental and social development, poverty reduction, peace building, as well as economic, political and social participation in developing and emerging economies.

Chiang Mai University, Unit for Social and Environmental Research
The Unit for Social and Environmental Research (USER) is an interdisciplinary research organization based at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Chiang Mai University in northern Thailand. Researchers at USER conduct and coordinate high quality inter-disciplinary research on the relationships between human society and the environment. USER carries out field-based action research on the interactions between livelihoods, lifestyles and social institutions with the environment and helps design and coordinate integrated studies of environmental change in the Southeast Asia region. Further, USER contributes to theory development through critical synthesis and re-conceptualization of relationships.
DHI
DHI is an independent, international consulting and research organisation authorised by the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation as an Approved Technological Service Institute. DHI's objectives are to build competence and promote technological development in areas relevant to water, environment and health. DHI offers a broad range of consultancy services, software and hardware products and tools. Competencies include numerical modelling, environmental laboratories and scale model test facilities, field surveys and monitoring programmes, and institutional capacity building and training. DHI’s staff numbers approximately 640, the half of whom working in DHI’s 20 international offices.
EcoPolicy
EcoPolicy is an independent non-governmental research centre. Its major activities include research on environmental, natural resources and climate policy with a particular emphasis on policies of Russia and NIS during transition. Research on environmental governance, implementation and effectiveness of international environmental agreements, integrated water resources management, coastal zones management, stakeholder participation, human security and global environmental change is among the areas of its competence. It supports interdisciplinary research approaches and linkages between science and practice. The company coordinates international research projects.
Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, Department of Geoinformatics
The Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU) is one of the most historic universities in Germany. The Department of Geoinformatics, Hydrology and Modelling (DGHM) was established in October 1994. The multidisciplinary research team headed by Prof. Dr. W.-A. Flügel comprises scientists from disciplines such as computer science, geography, hydrology, data management and software engineering. The research team established at the DGHM is internationally well recognized and is cooperating with leading research institutions in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and the US.
VITUKI
VITUKI was founded in 1952 on the basis of the Hydrologic Institute to perform for the Hungarian Water Management both basic and applied research, as well as studies related to the development, conservation and sound management of water resources of the country. VITUKI has emerged as one of the most complex water-oriented full-service professional organisations in Europe. At present, there are about 80 highly qualified specialists on the staff working at the forefront of integrated water resources management, water pollution control, hydrology and eco-hydrology.
