Extracting context-specific approaches from results of past and on-going projects
Objectives
- to review and assess projects’ results with regard to adaptive water management, water governance and impacts of and adaptation to climate change.
- to improve co-ordination and synergies between past and on-going projects
- to synthesise and consolidate case study results and thus to enhance their transferability to other basins
Based on the methodology elaborated and adapted in WP1, basin case studies of selected past and on-going twinning river basin projects will be reviewed and assessed. A representative partner of each of the participating projects will coordinate an analysis of their case study basins along the elaborated framework. The analysis will further involve other project participants and stakeholders as appropriate in a case study review workshop. In the analysis, focus is put on outcomes and lessons learned with respect to adaptive management of water systems. This will include topics such as:
- Elements of adaptive water management, such as participation, cooperation, institutional flexibility, knowledge transfer and learning and experimentation
- Decision-making procedures and their allocation at different scales.
- Involvement of and guidance given to end-users and stakeholders in the different basins and regions as well as during the projects
- Research needs and knowledge gaps to be addressed in the future
Results of the analyses will be brought together in a participatory synthesis workshop involving representatives of the research projects as well as main stakeholders of the twinning basins. Consolidated results will feed into a synthesis report on adaptive water governance in the context of climate change as part of sustainable water resources management plans and programmes.
